Final Project from Spring Mantel - Scrappy Fabric Ball

I've been on Spring Break - not like an actual vacation from life (like you had in college).  I mean, there were no keg stands or string bikinis, no days laying on beach without any responsibilities!  Just a break from the computer.  I love my blog, and I love all of you (and especially my dear Cherie who checked up on me!), but sometimes, you just gotta do stuff, and not write about that stuff.  Not to worry, I kept taking pictures of stuff, so I will be writing about it all in the coming days (or weeks - I just counted 8 photographed projects - woot woot!)  Anyway, here's the last little bit of my Spring mantel - and the least projecty-project of all.  The scrappy fabric ball is actually a ball - just wrapped in fabric!  How's that for cheating??

To really get back in to blogging I went ahead and started being a conscientious tutorial provider again - hence the nicely arranged collage for this tutorial.  Also, it is so easy it will take less than 50 words to tell you what to do, so it seemed silly to have a 12:1 picture to word ratio!  First, find a nicely-sized ball and some fabric scraps.  I had a bunch of 1" strips that hadn't been turned in to mini-pennants, so I sewed them into one REALLY long strip using a running stitch down the middle.  I thought I was going to ruffle all of them, but then I realized only a few would show - and so I only ruffled the last few feet!  Start wrapping at the un-ruffled end, crisscrossing in a decorative manner, and at the end, tuck the unfinished end in so it doesn't show.  Seriously, how easy was that!
