Confessions of a Working Mom

Thank you for putting up with me the past few weeks - I decided to start a new job at the beginning of this year.  I don't mean I switched jobs.  Nope, I thought I'd just pile a new one on top of the other stuff I've got going on.  I was going strong for the first 2 weeks - but the past two days I have hit .... a ......... wall.  Going from working 12 or so hours a week of work outside the home a week to 40+ is more than my poor body can handle.  I have started several projects but just can't seem to get things done.  (Could it be that I should be sleeping more? Hmmmm, I'll try that tonight!)  So, for today, I'm just going to share my fabulous finds from this amazing antique shop I just found.  When I say "just found," I mean I was actually driving aimlessly in circles with a napping younger child in the car waiting for the older child to get out of school and I drove by it multiple times - that was Tuesday, and I was so intrigued, I went back today!

Live near Champaign/Urbana in Illinois (or Indiana)?  Then come visit Mimi's Antiques & Uniques in Mahomet, IL - it is simply lovely.  Run by Michelle (lovingly named Mimi by her granddaughters), this place is not your average antique shop.  Don't let the nondescript exterior fool you - inside you'll find room groupings here, a mini tableau there - all showcasing wonderful vintage furniture, house goods, and more!  There is a whole corner of antique children's toys that I would have loved to purchase en mass - a little metal refrigerator . . . tiny metal silverware - so awesome!  I didn't bring my camera this trip, but next time, I'll have photos to share so you can take a virtual tour (if you visit the website, several of the coolest items in Michelle's inventory are featured).  I did take quite the haul back to my own home, which I can show you:
The turquoise tins are by Delft - I HAD to get them because they are made in Holland - the homeland of my (married into) people :)  The two large crates are from Peoria, IL, which is very near where my parents met (and went on their first date, to prom - how's that for a love story!?).  Plus - aren't they so awesome?  Those cool metal bottoms really caught my eye - I'm turning these into a shelving unit for my sewing table.  The long box was such a great deal - I'm thinking of hanging it on my coming-soon gallery wall.  I couldn't resist the seed bag, which has great printing on the front and perfectly weathered fabric on the back.  I've been coveting a mason jar for some time - this blue one came filled with wooden spools, some still holding thread . . . couldn't pass that up!  To top off my fabulous experience, Michelle carried all my purchases out to my car as I had my hands full with a two-year-old.  Customer service isn't dead!
If you'd like to read more about what inspires Michelle, check out her blog here - I found her last post very inspiring - it reminded me of this:
Whew - I'm off to bed now - dreaming of being more myself, hopefully - and working less!
